Heartbreak

I have had my fair share of heartbreak. I think it's a natural process that everyone has to go through and some go through more heartbreak than others!

I don't think people really understand how bad it can be until you are actually going through it yourself. It can actually feel like a genuine pain or ache in your chest area! Super weird!

Anyway for anyone going through heartbreak or any sort of relationship problems I can tell you this:
  1. It will get better, whatever happens you will come through this on the other side and be a better, stronger person for it
  2. Sometimes these things happen for a reason, and as much as it may not seem like the right thing at the time it may well be the best thing
  3. Talk about how you feel if you need to, even if you repeat yourself a 1000 times, I know I did. Keeping your feelings locked up wont help, and for me they only made my experience 10 times worse.
  4. Make yourself go out and be social with friends and family. It may seem like the last thing you want to do, but genuinely it will make you feel better. Even if there is only a minute or two where you catch yourself not thinking about it, that's better than nothing! Surrounding yourself with people who make you feel good is a great distraction!
  5. Nothing describes heartbreak better than a song by Imogen Heap called 'Wait it Out'*. The lyrics to this song really encapsulate heartbreak for me and I found it comforting to listen to this song because I took as as someone experiencing something similar and understanding:

"Where do we go from here?
How do we carry on?
I can't get beyond the questions.
Clambering for the scraps
In the shatter of us collapsed.
It cuts me with every could-have-been.

Pain on pain on play, repeating
With the backup makeshift life in waiting.

Everybody says that time heals everything.
But what of the wretched hollow?
The endless in-between?
Are we just going to wait it out? "

*I have only taken a snippet of the lyrics from the first half of the song. I really recommend listening to Imogen Heap if you haven't already. She is an amazing songwriter and her music is really uplifting!

The last thing I can say is don't be afraid to get your heartbroken again! Take a leap of faith, if it doesn't pay off, its not meant to be!
