Anxious Times
I think we can all agree that recent events are causing a lot of panic and tension across Europe and the world. You can't escape the media coverage at the moment so it's understandable that this can add extra worry.
For us anxiety sufferers when an actual situation occurs that really can warrant a worry it's a little hard to contain. For me, I've felt overwhelmed recently and found myself reading into all the reports and almost becoming slightly obsessed with what's happening and I've felt fear take over me a bit. Currently I am having my lunch at work and I can best describe my anxiety symptoms as those I would expect someone who is having a heart attack to feel.
What is happening is awful, unimaginable and any who have been directly effected, my thoughts go out to you and your families and I cannot comprehend what you are going through!!!
We have to gain perspective, the world is full of daily risks and always has been. These are not the first individuals to cause havoc. The world in my opinion has always been fighting some type of war and it's unlikely that we will be rid of that. Good will overcome evil. Remain viligant and attentive but don't overly read into things in the media, especially if it causes you to have panic attacks, like me. Spend time with family and friends and be thankful for what you have. Don't worry about what could happen one day, some day. If we all did that we'd be afraid to leave the house every morning incase we had a car accident, or we get terminally ill, or if there's an earthquake (could happen) or a tree falls down, there's a fire. Etc etc. My therapist taught me a great technique for helping deal with this; use the word "Maybe". Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. Think about the converse argument; ok so this bad thing could maybe happen but what about the good thing that could maybe happen.
Remember as well if you are worrying, talk to someone and let it out. Don't keep it contained until you explode (literally speaking).
Stay safe and stay strong!
Pray for Paris and the World ( we must remember all others who have been effected by terror as well)
