January Blues
Wow so Christmas and New Year was great for me. Lots of time spent with family and friends, calories and alcohol consumed. Now its January and I'm feeling a little blue. Reality has smacked me in the face and I feel meeh.
I think a lot of people feel this way at this time of year. After so much excitement and indulgence its a bit of a shock to the system to go back to work and get back into that grinding routine.
For those of us that have anxiety it feels like you've been hit with a sledgehammer. I have actually had the last two days off, and have I relaxed?! No! I've spent the two days worrying, not sleeping, feeling stressed, overthinking everything and feeling extremely panicky. As I write this post my chest feels tight and I can feel my breathing getting a little labored. I think the promise of a New Year can be extremely overwhelming. There are a lot of expectations, plans, promises, resolutions etc. If you don't just sit to try and realistically put things together you can drive yourself a little nuts.
New Years advice:

New Years advice:
- Don't worry about the future too much; i.e. what will happen, might happen - Just try and think about today
- Don't set yourself ridiculous goals. If you fail you'll be disappointed and feel bad about yourself.
- Try to get back into a routine as soon as possible, if you maintain late nights and a crazy eating pattern you'll find it difficult to get back into the daily routine when its upon you
- Remember that January is a bit of a downer for everyone, and a lot of people will be feeling the same
- Try to make SOME plans for the up-coming months --> give yourself something to look forward to. But don't go mad
- Enjoy 'me' time. Pampering yourself, and doing things you want to do will make you feel good about yourself
- Exercising is great for anxiety, if you aren't already part of a gym then maybe try go for a jog once a week. As much as I find it hard to get myself to the gym, once I'm there and I'm exercising, it makes me feel so much better!
- It is good to try and get healthy for January, don't get me wrong I ate so much over Christmas but don't cut out all your luxuries, eating should be enjoyable too ya know!
- Lastly, remember you can manage your anxiety, its just about finding the best method for you, and 2016 will be YOUR year to find this (if you haven't already).
Stay Strong
